“That Stuart Benjamin be removed as a director of the Company with immediate effect.”
In December 2015, Stuart Benjamin (SB) suddenly replaced The Hon Tony Staley AO as Chairman. At that time, SB was an elected “Demand Class Director”.
In November 2016 (and just two weeks before the AGM), in a backroom deal with fellow Directors, he resigned as a Demand Class Director and Chairman, and was immediately elected as an Independent Director and re-elected as Chairman. Why was such a proposal not put to the Members first?
Under SB’s watch, staff and Director attrition has been mind boggling for such a small organisation. E.g. 10 out of 13 staff members have either left or are leaving as at 30 June 2017. Two well respected Independent Directors did not have their contracts renewed in 2016 (SB assumed one of their positions).
Despite promises to the contrary, communication is now one-sided, and transparency seems to be a thing of the past. Members have little clue what is actually going on behind the scenes – particularly given there are so many important issues currently in play (which affect Members).
We are aware SB has also ridiculed and abused certain members, and questioned the judgement of other people involved with auDA. He seems to think that he has the rights to do all these things. That is no way for a Chair to treat anyone within a membership organisation.
Does all this indicate a potentially systemic problem at auDA? We believe so, which is why we are also calling for the resignation of Stuart Benjamin as Independent Director and Chair. This all happened on his watch – the buck must stop with him.
